Solupharm has been a contract manufacturer of parenteral products for more than 40 years. The company was officially entered in the Commercial Register in 1974, having already operated for several years under the name of Aesculap-Apotheke (pharmacy).
In common with many other pharmaceutical enterprises, Solupharm developed from a pharmacy. The pharmacy owner and founder of the company was pharmacist Dr. Hans-Jürgen Kümmell, who began contract manufacturing for a well-known hospital supplier – who is also based in Melsungen – at the end of the 1960s.
From the smallest and most modest beginnings and in the course of the years, a medium-sized enterprise specializing in the contract manufacture of small and medium-sized batches of sterile pharmaceuticals packaged in glass ampoules and glass phials evolved.
Solupharm is still a family business to this day; it is now managed in the second generation by its Managing Shareholder pharmacist Friedemann Seitz, the son-in-law of the company’s founder. The company currently employs a staff of approximately 460.
